DCDSB Ventilation Measures Report
Posted On Thursday September 28, 2023
Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) is optimizing air quality in schools through improved ventilation and filtration. Ventilation measures include increasing the flow of outdoor/fresh air for diluting the concentration of any infectious particles. Filtration measures involve the use of different types of fibrous media designed to remove particles from the airstream.
DCDSB Ventilation Strategy includes:
- We are using MERV-13 graded filters on mechanical systems and changing them a minimum of three times each school year.
- We have increased outdoor air flow rates to further increase fresh air being supplied to buildings.
- We are operating ventilaton systems prior and post occupancy to maximize ventilation and efficiency.
- We have placed HEPA units in all elementary and secondary classrooms, as well as main offices, libraries, gymnasiums, cafeterias and some other general gathering spaces within schools.
- 1,160 standalone HEPA filter units have been deployed to schools.
