The Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) is pleased to welcome students and staff to the 2018-2019 school year, marking the board’s 50th year serving families in the cities of Pickering, Ajax, Whitby and Oshawa, and the townships of Brock, Scugog and Uxbridge.

“This milestone year speaks to the sense of belonging and community that we share in our schools where our Catholic values are thriving,” said Anne O’Brien, Director of Education. “For five decades, we have grown as a system and as a community, celebrating our past and embracing the future as we continue to build on a model for student success that is based on developing the mind, body and spirit of learners of all ages.”

Throughout the year, the special milestone will be highlighted  at various events, including a 50th anniversary Mass celebrated by His Eminence, Thomas Cardinal Collins, 50th Day of School, family picnic, book release documenting the history of the board, and other activities. Event details and historical information can be found at dcdsb.ca/50years.

“We are excited about the ongoing celebrations that will take place in our schools and Catholic Education Centre throughout the year,” said Tricia Chapman, Chair of the Board. “It is with gratitude to all of our families, parishes, community partners and supporters that we acknowledge our significant anniversary and continue on our successful journey. We encourage all of our partners to join us in a year of joy and celebration,” she said.
